Combining Coupons and Store Promotions
What is coupon stacking?
Coupon stacking means combining two or more discounts when the retailer’s policy and each offer’s terms allow it. A sale price, a manufacturer coupon, and a store coupon are different kinds of savings. Having multiple offers does not guarantee they can be used together.
Learn the terms
Manufacturer coupon: Discount issued by a product manufacturer. Store coupon: Discount issued by a retailer. Sale: A temporary price reduction. Rebate: A reward credited after an eligible purchase and successful redemption.
Practice the math
A product costs $8 regularly and is on sale for $6. If a $1.50 manufacturer coupon and $1 store coupon are both eligible together, checkout cost before tax is $3.50. That is $4.50 below the regular price. This is an illustrative example, not a verified live offer.
Before you shop
Check the correct product, size, quantity, expiry date, retailer, and all restrictions. Never assume a combination is allowed merely because an app displays both offers.
Practice: Choose three products you need, record the prices and eligible discounts, and calculate the expected checkout totals.
Ibotta: Cash-Back Rebates
What is Ibotta?
Ibotta is a cash-back service for qualifying purchases. Unlike an instant coupon, a rebate generally requires you to make an eligible purchase and complete the app’s redemption process before credit is awarded.
Where to find it
Use the official Ibotta website or its official mobile app. During new-account registration, look for a referral-code entry field if available.
How to use an offer
- Choose a participating retailer in Ibotta.
- Find a rebate for a product already on your shopping list.
- Read brand, size, quantity, retailer, timing, and coupon-combination rules.
- Purchase the eligible item and follow the app’s current receipt or linked-account redemption instructions.
- Confirm the rebate was credited before counting it as realized savings.
Referral benefit
New users may qualify for a promotional reward after meeting the current offer’s requirements. The amount is not guaranteed. Basket Blueprint may also earn a referral reward.
Referral disclosure: Basket Blueprint may receive compensation for eligible sign-ups. Using this code is optional. Verify the current promotion and referral rules in the app.
Practice: Find two eligible rebates for products you actually need. Write down their requirements before purchasing.
Fetch: Receipt Rewards
What is Fetch?
Fetch is a rewards app that awards points for eligible receipts and qualifying offers. Points are not an instant cash discount; keep them separate from checkout savings and cash-back rebates.
Where to find it
Download Fetch from its official app listing or visit the official Fetch website. Create a new account and locate the referral-code option. Enter the code before submitting your first receipt to avoid missing a potentially eligible new-user referral reward.
How to earn points
- Review available offers and their product or retailer requirements.
- Make an eligible purchase.
- Open Fetch and follow the instructions for scanning a clear, complete receipt or other eligible submission method.
- Review credited points and available redemption options in your account.
Referral benefit
Eligible new members may receive bonus points after completing the current referral requirements. Basket Blueprint may receive points as well. Reward amounts can change.
Referral disclosure: Basket Blueprint may earn referral rewards. Using this code is optional, and rewards depend on Fetch’s current terms.
Practice: Locate two relevant offers and write down the required purchase, deadline, and point reward.
Build Your Weekly Savings Strategy
Step 1 — Start with needs and budget
Set a realistic weekly grocery budget and list what you need before looking for discounts. A rebate on an unnecessary item is not automatically a saving.
Step 2 — Compare prices and offers
Review your retailer’s current weekly advertisement, store coupons, and manufacturer coupons. Then check Ibotta and Fetch for eligible offers. Verify all combination restrictions, especially for manufacturer coupons and rebates.
Step 3 — Calculate three separate figures
Checkout cost = sale price − eligible instant coupons. Effective cost after credited rebate = checkout cost − rebates actually credited. Fetch points should be recorded separately until redeemed; they are not dollars off the current receipt.
Example: A $6 item is on sale for $5. An eligible $1 coupon reduces checkout price to $4. If a separate $1 rebate is permitted and successfully credited, effective cost is $3 before tax. This is a hypothetical example, not a live offer.
Step 4 — Reconcile after shopping
Compare expected versus actual checkout price, credited rebates, and points. Save your receipts and update your worksheet. Do not count unapproved rebates as confirmed savings.
Final assignment: Build a five-product shopping plan using the worksheet below.
Intermediate Final Quiz
Choose one answer per question. Passing score: 6 of 8 (75%).
Weekly Savings Worksheet
Enter estimated prices for products you actually need. Count only permitted coupons and rebates; record Fetch points separately.
| Product | Brand | Size / count | Store | Regular $ | Sale $ | Coupon $ | Rebate $ | Fetch pts |
|---|
Record the exact brand and package size to check coupon and rebate eligibility. The effective-cost estimate assumes the rebate is permitted and eventually credited. It excludes taxes and fees. Enter 0 for discounts that do not apply.
Rewards Tracker
Log expected and received rewards separately. Enter rewards only after checking the Ibotta or Fetch app. This preview does not connect to those accounts automatically.
| Purchase date | App | Product / brand / size | Reward type | Expected | Received | Status | Credited date | Notes / redemption |
|---|
Cash-back dollars and Fetch points are always tracked separately. A reward withdrawal or gift-card redemption is a use of an already-earned reward, not additional savings. Entries are stored only in this browser on this device; clear browser data and they may be lost. Export CSV for backup. Student accounts and cloud syncing are not configured.
